UNHCR will help only the villages which are mixed – Rakhine and Rohingya - villages hit by cyclone Koman on August 7, according to an UNHCR staff, denied to be named.

The UNHCR are not able to visit and to help to build the cyclone hit houses from the villages which standalone by only Rohingya community as per authority direction, the officer said.

The UNHCR will only help to build the houses from Rakhine villages and mixed villages, the officer more added.

But, the Rohingya from mixed villages denied, they didn’t get any help from UNHCR, said Halim, a Human Rights watchdog from Maungdaw.

Houses damaged by Cyclone Koman on August 7 are still not able to build  in Maungdaw as the victims are not getting any help from any sources, said Anwer from Bomu Para from Maungdaw.

The Arakan state government chief Mra Aung distributed recently foods, household items, farming equipment to Rakhine community , but no to Rohingya community, said Halim.

The Rohingya villagers who were victims of cyclone are not getting any support from government, INGOs. When tried to distribute aids to Rohingya, authority barred to those who are in the aids distribution, Halim More added.

The authority also not issuing permits to Rohingya villagers who are able to build their home, most of Burmese border guard police harass Rohingya villagers who try to build their home hit by cyclone, said Rafique, an elder from Maungdaw.
