Maungdaw, Arakan State: Burma's border security force, or Nasaka of Bawli Bazaar seized goods from a businessman on August 21, when he had reached home with goods from Bangladesh, said a friend of victim on condition of anonymity.

The businessman is identified as Rofique (18), son of Abdul Nabi, from Bawli Bazaar village of Maungdaw township.

There was an understanding between Nasaka and the businessman Rafique that goods from Bangladesh would not be seized when he comes from Bangladesh. He had to pay Kyat 50,000 per month to the Naska camp No. 14 of Bawli Bazaar for this business.

On August 21, Rafique carried 250 litres of edible oil and 35 kg of Semi (vermicelli) from Bangladesh and kept it in his house.

On being tipped off, a group of Nasaka from the camp No.14 went to Rafique's house at around midnight and seized the goods.  But, the Nasaka took away 125 litres of edible oil leaving the rest to the owner. A litre of edible oil is being sold at Kyat 2,200 in northern Arakan, so the businessman lost Kyat 275,000 for 126 litres of oil which was taken away by the Nasaka.

A close relative of Rafique said, "The Nasaka never keeps its promise when they see profit."
