Maungdaw, Arakan State: The Township Peace and Development Council (TPDC) authority ordered new law for forthcoming election campaign to the village authority recently said a politician from Maungdaw.

The TPDC chairman, Aung Kyaw Htun, called two members of village authority from each village under Maungdaw Township to his office and gave instruction to check any political party which will soon start campaign for forthcoming election except Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), the politician said.

The new law for political party which wants to campaign are: have registered the party in election commission;   have permitted to campaign from township election commission and other township authority and have transferred the form ten who are not the resident of Maungdaw.

“The TPDC chairman ordered to all villages’ authority to check first the paper which he had ordered and then to give permission for campaign,” said a school teacher.

“In Maungdaw, most of the Rohingya will contest for election who are living in Rangoon, so the authority are making difficulty to candidates to run campaign smoothly,” the teacher said.

On other hand, the National Democratic Party for Development (NDPD) candidates will arrive tomorrow from Rangoon where they had gone to celebrate Muslim religious festival (Eid-ul-frtr) with their family members. The NDPD members will campaign and will set up their office in Maungdaw after arrive, said a supporter of NDPD.

But, the USDP is using government building (former general hospital) for party office and the USDP temporary secretary U Htun Hla Sein handed over five CDMA mobile phones to their candidates of Maungdaw using government fund (500,000 kyat each) and also there are rumor in Maungdaw that USDP will give each candidate 5 millions kyat for campaign, according to an official from Maungdaw.

“The USDP members will try to clash with other party candidates when they will campaign for election. For that, the other party will complain in police station where USDP will try to held them with false case,” said a local youth who was informed by his friend, a USDP member.
