Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh: A high-level officers meeting between the Burma and Bangladesh border security forces was held without any concrete outcome in the beach resort Hotel Sea Place in Cox’s Bazaar yesterday, according to official sources.
 
Colonel Deedarul Alam Chowdhury, Sector Commander, Bangladesh Rifles, Chittagong sector led the 22-members from Bangladesh while Colonel Aung Gyi, Assistant Director, Nasaka, Burma’s border security force headquarters, Maungdaw from Northern Arakan, led the delegation from Burma at the meeting.
 
The two sides met in Cox’s Bazaar to discus border security.
 
At the meeting, the two countries delegates discussed the Burmese authorities erecting fences on the Burma-Bangladesh border areas; cross border smuggling especially drug inflow to Bangladesh from Burma; intrusion of Rohingya into Bangladesh, to come to an agreement to exchange prisoners from both countries; border trade issue and border security issues, the sources said
 
“The Myanmar delegates admitted that some Rohingyas were illegally crossing the Bangladesh-Myanmar border and taking shelter in Bangladesh. Nasaka, is trying to stop Rohingyas crossing the border but they have failed,” Colonel Deedarul Alam Chowdhury told journalists at a press briefing.
 
“We are seeking Myanmar’s help to stop the Rohingya influx,” Deedar further said.

“Over 803 Rohingyas have been pushed back to Burma by BDR personnel during January to June 22,” Colonel Deedar said.
 
At the meeting, Col. Aung Gyi asked his counterpart to handover Rohingya who crossed the border to Nasaka, and not to push them back directly.
 
“Both officers agreed to stop cross border smuggling at the meeting,” said Colonel Deedar.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Khalek, Commanding Officer, 42  Bangladesh Rifles Battalion Teknaf, Lieutenant Colonel Khondoker Farid Hassan, incoming Commanding Officer, 42 Rifles Battalion, Teknaf, Major Md. Sajjadul Kabir, Acting commanding officer, 17 Rifles Battalion, Cox's Bazar, Major Fazlul Karim, acting Commanding Officer, 15 Rifles Battalion, Nikkongchari and Major Md. Yousuf Sharif, Acting Commanding officer, Bolipara Rifles Battalion, Bandarban hill district were present in the meeting among others.
 
The meeting was from 11 am to 2 pm
