Maungdaw, Arakan State:
An Arakanese Rohingya boy was killed by a truck of the Army Engineer’s unit in Maungdaw yesterday at about 16:00 hour, said a local elder from Maungdaw.

The boy (14) was from Shweza village tract and was the son of Mawnuu, a rickshaw puller, the elder said.

The boy came under the truck while the Army Engineer’s unit personnel ordered pushing the truck which had a breakdown.  The driver was not in control of the truck while people pushed and the boy came under it, said a student who also pushed the truck.

After the accident, the people took the boy to the hospital, but he died at 17: 30 hours, said the student.

No case was registered against the army driver and there was no arrest.

The Army Engineer’s unit personnel do not care for anybody and drive their trucks roughly and everybody has to give them the right of way. They hit around five Arakanese Rohingya this month on the road.
