Maungdaw, Araan State: Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) has been harassing Arakanese Rohingya shopkeepers since February 7, in Maungdaw Township.  Major Sein Win, Nasaka Commander of area number 6, summoned the shopkeepers and forced them to borrow money from him so as to get profit on a monthly basis from their business, said a local trader.

The Maungdaw Township Peace and Development Council (TPDC) office has been sitting on teacher’s applications from the Arakanese Rohingya community in Maungdaw, said a TPDC officer.

Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh: Bangladesh authorities are continuing with the arrest of Arakanese Rohingya people in Cox’s Bazaar district from their houses at night. They are being sent to Cox’s Bazaar jail for crossing the border, said a relative of the victims form Chakaria on condition of anonymity.

Maungdaw, Arakan State: Arakanese Rohingya people are being arrested by Burma’s border security force, Nasaka, on false accusations to extort money. They torture the arrested on allegations that they have Bangladeshi mobile phones without permission, said a local youth in Maungdaw Township on condition of anonymity.

Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazaar: Thirteen unregistered Arakanese refugees have died of starvation in Kutuapalong makeshift camp because most were unable to go outside the camp to work for fear of arrest by authorities in Bangladesh, said a refugee from the camp on condition of anonymity. The deaths occurred between January 10 to 15, 2010.
