Maungdaw, Arakan State: Today, Yousuf - the number two block administration officer - is collecting money from villagers for entering their new born babies in their family list after participating so-called population data collection program, said Ashique, an elder from the village.

The block admin officer is collecting 2000 kyat per baby for entering in the household family list and 1000 kyat per family list for entertainment of the so-called population data collection program processing group, Ashique said.

Yousf is well-known for extorting money from villagers with various reason and earning more than million kyat per month and it is an opportunity for him to extort money by giving threaten to the villagers during the process of so-called population data collection program, said a member of block admin office who denied to be named.

The so-called population data collection program processing group didn’t collect any money for entering the new born babies and for their entertainment – foods and tea, he collected more than he need for it. He keeps all the money in his pocket and giving his godfather – U Kyi San, the Township admin officer- for his safety, the member said.

The collection for new babies are only collect in number two block, not other areas or place of Maungdaw district. Yousuf only mention to pay money for new born babies to enter in the family list, the member more added.

Rohingya community are facing hardship for their survival as authority imposed on their livelihoods activities and Yousuf is again giving them more pained by collecting money for new born babies which not officially collecting, said Javad, a school teacher from Maungdaw.
