Teknaf, Bangladesh: In twin raids the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) seized a huge quantity of goods worth an estimated Taka 1.3 million in the Teknaf border area of Cox’s Bazaar district.


On November 28, the BDR seized a huge amount of drugs including alcoholic drinks worth Taka 6, 30,000 from Boroitoli in Teknaf when it was being smuggled to Burma. But no one was arrested, said a local in Teknaf union.


The same day, the BDR stopped another vehicle laden with Burmese wood (smuggled from Burma) from Whykong village while it was on way to its destination. The wood was worth over Taka 600,000.


Yesterday, the commander of the 23 Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) in Teknaf destroyed alcoholic drinks worth about Taka 0.6 million at their camp, according to official sources.


To boost legal border trade, the BDR and police have been trying to stop smuggling, but it continues unabated.
