Paris, France: Some organizations have contributed Thai Bath1, 68,000/-for Rohingya boat-people, who were recently arrested by Thai government while en route to Malaysia, according to Hla Aunung, the president of NDPHR, Paris.

U Htoo Chit, Director of Grassroots Human Rights Education and Development Committee (Burma), or GHRE has spent more than 100,000 Baht, National Democratic Party for Human Rights (NDPHR-Paris) party members contributed 50,000 Baht, Burmese Rohingya Community in Australia (BRCA) has contributed about 13,000 Baht and U Kyaw Swa of Oversea Burmese Muslim Union (UK) has also donated 5,000 Baht, Ko Hla Aung further added.

U Htoo Chit helped those boat-people since from the very beginning of the crisis. U Kyaw Swa also provided some foods.

In addition, the CEC member Anwar Arkani has been continuously working on the ground in collaboration with other NGOs. Some local Rohingya are also engaging too, said Anwar, from Thailand.
At the moment, the Thai NGO, Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) and some individual are providing some limited help to them.

At present, those people numbering more than 500 are in different serious situation. Some were lost in the sea, some are in detention centre in Thailand to be deported, some are in the hand of DKBA in Myawaddy, Burma side, some are in jail of Maugdaw town of Arakan State, Burma and Bangladesh. They were caught on their half-way at sea; some are in Thai-Burma border area. They lost everything, in serious need of food, medicine and clothes.

Upon the above information, Ko Hla Aung (NDPHR) would like to request to any Rohingya Organization and individual to write to Thai authorities and UN mandated organizations to provide a “safe-shelter” to those Rohingya boat-people so that they might have a chance to be resettled in a third country. To inform to the “near-persons” in Arakan as possible as one could not to “venture to a life-risky journey at sea and better stay at home.”

He also requested to contribute donation for those needy boat-people in the border either through U Htoo Chit or U Anwar Arkani, the Director of Grassroots HRE and CEC member of NDPHR respectively
