Teknaf, Bangladesh: A refugee from the unofficial, or Tal camp in the Dum Dum Mea area of Teknaf was arrested on January 15 with 32 yaba methamphetamine tablets in his pocket by Bangladesh authorities, said a camp leader, or Majee, who declined to be named.

Buthidaung, Arakan State:  A rice mill belonging to a Rohingya in Shabi Bazar village of Buthidaung Township was closed by police on January 5, without any advanced warning to him, says a family member of the mill owner.

Teknaf, Bangladesh: A huge amount of rice has come to Bangladesh from Burma since January 6, after rice prices shot up in Bangladesh due to the widespread devastation of local rice crops by hurricane Sidr, which struck in November. The rice import follows an agreement between Bangladesh and Burma.
