Maungdaw, Arakan State:  Illiyas (48) a Village Peace and Development Council, or VPDC member from Oo Shintkya village under Nasaka Burma's border security force in area No. 5 of Maungdaw Township, was arrested for buying and stocking timber in his house, said another member of the VPDC.

On being tipped off, a section of Nasaka personnel from area No. 5 went to Illiyas’s house and found some logs which he had bought to build his house, but the Nasaka personnel accused him of being a timber smuggler and arrested him on 23 January, an aide of Nasaka said.

All the members of Oo Shintkya's VPDC appealed to the Nasaka with their signature, but the Nasaka personal took Kyat 400,000 for his release, said a relative of Illiyas.

The next day, at 1 pm, the Nasaka personnel went to Illiyas's house and arrested his wife and children without charging them when Illiyas went to the Maungdaw. The family' members are still at the Nasaka camp and Illiyas is hiding in fear of arrest, added.
