Teknaf, Bangladesh: Three Burmese nationals were arrested by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) from the Bangladesh-Burma border on January 29 while they were entering Bangladesh illegally after crossing the Naf River .

The Burmese nationals were arrested from Leda under Teknaf union, Cox's Bazaar district by BDR Battalion No. 23, according to sources.

The BDR also arrested a Bangladeshi human trafficker Mohammed Amin (28), from Nayapara in Teknaf.  He has been involved in human trafficking for a long time. He was said to be helping the three Burmese nationals to cross over to Bangladesh, according to an official.

The same day evening the three Burmese nationals were pushed back to Burma from the transit point of Zadi Mura under Teknaf union. The human trafficker Amin was handed over to the Teknaf police station for further interrogation.

The three Burmese nationals have been identified as Mohammed Mostafa (30), Mohammed Yasin (20), and Zaker Hussain (25), hailing from Buthidaung Township. They were brought to Bangladesh from Burma so that they could be sent abroad by the trafficker.

Yesterday, about 60 boat people were stranded on Teknaf sea beach after the boat was damaged on the way to Malaysia from Bangladesh, said a fisherman in Teknaf.
