Naikhongchari, Bangladesh: Nasaka Burma’s Border Security Force personnel abducted two Bangladeshi nationals from a border area in Naikhingchari upazila under Bandarban Hill district on February 24 evening.

Nasaka personnel crossed the border and dragged them away when they were collecting firewood inside Bangladesh territory, according to locals.

The kidnapped firewood collectors were identified as Meher Ali (25) and Abdur Rahim (22). They belong to Khoya Sori village of Hillodiapalong , which is on the eastern side of Ukhiya upazila.

Most people living along the Bangladesh-Burma border areas are poor and eke out a living by collecting firewood and selling it in the market.

Nasaka often abducts Bangladeshi woodcutters from border areas and later releases them.

The Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) is trying to secure their release. They will be set free in a week, said one of the parents of the abducted.
