Pauktaw, Arakan State: A boat carrying bricks capsized today at about 9 am near Pauktaw jetty of Pauktaw Township in Arakan State, Burma.

The boat was transporting bricks and wood along the Pauktaw River and heading from Myebon to Pauktaw when it capsized 200 yards away from the Pauktaw jetty. The boat went down as it was overloaded.

The boat was commandeered by the Pauktaw police from March 25 to carry bricks from Mayebon to Pauktaw town for road repairs in Pauktaw town.

The owner of the boat is Md. Shajan (46) from Pauktaw Township

The police personnel loaded the timber for their personal use and it was not part of the road project, said a local boat owner.

The authorities will not pay compensation for the boat even though it was used in their project, the source said.
