Buthidaung, Arakan State: Policemen and Burma’s border security force continue to arbitrarily arrest, extort and loot money and goods from villagers in northern Arakan on false charges without batting an eye lid, according to a village elder on condition of anonymity.

Maungdaw, Arakan State: Two Rohingyas were sentenced to four years in prison each on April 23 in Buthidaung court for going to Yaung Chaung market in Buthidaung Township from Rathedaung Township to buy cattle, said a relative of one of the victims.

Maungdaw, Arakan State: The Maungdaw District Peace and Development Council (DPDC) Chairman U Hla Win accompanied by Maungdaw Township Peace and Development Council (TPDC) Chairman held a meeting on April 30, in Maungdaw Town inviting Imams (prayer leaders) of mosques and Maulanas (teachers) of Madrasas (Arabic schools) from the township for discussions on the referendum, said one of the participants.

Buthidaung, Arakan State:  Policemen in Buthidaung Town fined Abdu Salam (40) son of Fayaz from Aley Chaung in Buthidaung Township Kyat 30,000 for holding a religious function without permission from the authorities, said a close relative of the victim.
