Maungdaw, Burma: The police of Bawli Bazar police station under the Maungdaw Township arrested a youth on November 23, on the allegation that he had a love affair with a girl from a neighboring house, said a relative of the victim who did not want to be named.

The victim was identified as Ayub (25), son of Lalu, hailing from Krat Chaung village under the Lone Don village tract of Maungdaw Township.

On November 23 at about 9:30 p.m. the victim Ayub went to a neighbor's house to pay a visit. Meanwhile, a group of policemen from Bawli Bazar police station went to the house while on patrol in the village.

When asked a village elder said, "The police need money so they arrest innocent villagers on fabricated and false allegations".

The victim Ayub was arrested by the police on the allegation that he had an illicit affair with the daughter of his neighbor. But, the fact remains he had no such affair with the girl and he visited the house as a neighbor.  However, the police insisted that he had a love affair though there was no such allegation from the relatives of the girl.

The following day, the victim was released after he paid Kyat 120,000 to the police officer.
