The Arakan Army’s (AA) Maungdaw Township Administrator and Political Wing Commander convened a meeting with Rohingya community elders, including businessmen, religious leaders, and local intellectuals, at the Administrator’s Office in Ward No. 2 on September 1, 2025, according to a Rohingya elder.

During the meeting, AA officials requested 50 million kyats from Rohingya community members to repair the British-era “Black Bridge” near Naung Change village  on the Maungdaw–Alethankyaw– Ah Ngu Maw road. The AA political commander further instructed that each Rohingya ward contribute 10 million kyats, while Rakhine wards were not included in the contribution, the elder said.

The meeting was held exclusively with Rohingya representatives and did not involve members of the Rakhine community, despite the bridge being used by all residents, he added.

Local residents and community members expressed concern over the demand, citing economic hardship and restrictions on movement that make it difficult for Rohingya families to raise such funds.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
