A local leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that children from Rohingya refugee families are enrolled at a junior college in Hyderabad’s Old City, a claim that has been strongly denied by the institution’s administration.

The incident took place on July 1 when a group led by BJP leader Andela Sriramulu Yadav entered the premises of Nooria Co-Op Junior College and questioned staff members about the enrollment of two students.

According to CCTV footage from the college, members of the group requested admission records and asked whether Rohingya children were studying at the institution.

College staff responded that all enrolled students had been admitted using valid documentation, including Aadhaar identification cards.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Sriramulu Yadav, who contested the 2023 Telangana Assembly election from the Maheswaram constituency, alleged that the college had admitted children of undocumented migrants.

“We received information that one child living in Balapur is studying at this college. However, we believe it is not just one child, but many children from Rohingya Muslim families are studying here,” Yadav said.

He further alleged that the college was receiving support from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, and accused the party of facilitating the enrollment of undocumented migrants.

The AIMIM had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.

College Denies Allegations

The principal of Nooria Co-Op Junior College, Mohammed Ghaziuddin, rejected the allegations, describing them as “baseless” and “false.”

According to the principal, the BJP leader and his supporters entered the college during his absence, questioned office staff and recorded videos inside the campus without permission.

Ghaziuddin subsequently filed a complaint with Santosh Nagar Police Station, under whose jurisdiction the college is located.

Police officials confirmed receiving the complaint. However, no criminal case had been registered as of the latest available information.
